Pandemic in Focus

Pandemia

Annick Donkers | Mexico

Irène, a French teacher, only goes outside the house for shopping.

At the beginning of the quarantine, I felt panic and paranoia. I was following thoroughly the news of my home country Belgium from Mexico where I live. I saw how my country reached an alarming stage of contaminations and deaths in no time.

After the first panic, I decided to do the things I always wanted to do and go out to take pictures again. I felt so restless for not being able to photograph and work on stories. I started with long walks to the city center on Sunday mornings to document the empty streets and the changes. I contacted my friends that were living close by to document their life in confinement.
