Las Invasiones

Emiliano Pinnizzotto | Chimbote, Peru

The arrival in Chimbote is very hard.
an infinity of shacks attached to each other.
People here live in extreme poverty, probably the slums of Chimbote are the poorest places in Peru.

In the suburbs of Chimbote a second city has been created called New Chimbote also knows as "Las Invasiones" (the invasions) because of the unstoppable number of arrivals. These large slums are an infinity of shacks attached to each other made by mats and cardboards. People coming from the Andes looking for work live in extreme poverty. Probably the slums of Chimbote are the poorest place in Perù without no running water, no toilet, gas, and violence is the order of the day making conditions of life unsustainable.
