In frail condition, he rests his tired head on his arm. This was one of the first shots I captured in the series. Being a frequent visitor at my Grandfather's house, I would have expected him to remember my name. Moments before this shot, he had no idea who I was. A stranger taking his photograph.
Irony is the opposite of what is or might be expected. It might be expected that Donald is a very popular old man. There is a constant soul accompanying him, giving him direction and meaning to life; guiding him. Yet the company is hollow. The cold and bitter idea of a caretaker everyday, which once seemed unreasonably restrictive, has now become the norm. The unfortunate truth is, however, he is the loneliest man I know.
