This course will cover the foundation and advanced features of Adobe InDesign, the technical specifications of photographic images, and working with fonts to design a photo book or other photography-based publications such as museum catalogs, magazines, etc. The emphasize of the class will be on the technical aspects of creating final printer-ready files.
You will learn how to create a new multi-page document, set up master pages, margins, automatic page numbering and footers, import images, work with type, object tools, and colors. You will also learn about image color spaces, resolutions and how to work with black and white images with modern four color offset or digital printing.
We will also look at examples of successful photo books and learn how the principals employed in these books can inform decisions about designing your book.
Students should come to class with a concept for a design project to work on and a collection of photos. Students must have access to any version of Adobe InDesign. Homework will be assigned. Instructor will be available for one-on-one meetings with students as needed.
