John Gillooly, the son of a professional photographer, is a Milton, Massachusetts - based photographer. He started his commercial photography business, Professional Event Images, in 1997, after 3 years working in sports marketing in Atlanta, GA and Stamford, CT. After working on the marketing side of major sporting events and sponsorships, the company was founded to provide professional photography from that marketing and sponsorship perspective.

In that capacity, John has photographed premier events like the Super Bowl, World Series, Olympic Games, the French Open, The Masters and over 50 PGA events for clients including Mastercard, Lexus, IBM, BMW, UPS, Wyndham Worldwide, EMC, Cisco and ADP.

With the major event work being largely travel-based, John refocused in the early 2000’s to more local marketing and advertising work in the Boston area. Assignments like 50 days in Sydney for the 2000 Olympics were no longer desirable to a husband and father of two children. Some of those Massachusetts based clients include the United Way, Boston Children’s Hospital, Steward Healthcare, Pfizer and various education clients including Boston College, UMass Boston, Umass Medical, MIT, Northeastern, Simmons, Milton Academy, Belmont Hill, BC High and Roxbury Latin.

Sporadic personal work has been featured in two solo shows at the Landau Gallery at Belmont Hill School and the Karen and Ted Koskores Art Gallery at Thayer Academy. The Landau Gallery show featured personal and assignment work in and around Fenway Park. The Koskores Gallery show had an assortment of work from assignments and street photography from Paris, Morocco, Cuba and New York City. John is now committing more time and energy to personal projects and this “Leave a Mark” project is a blueprint for the type of projects he wants to pursue.

Born in Dorchester, raised in Stoughton, John has lived in Milton since 2004. His wife Jess is the art teacher at Tucker Elementary and varsity swim coach at MHS. Their children Rose and Johnny have grown up in the Milton Public Schools, attending Cunningham, Pierce and MHS. Rose graduated Milton High School in 2022 and attends Savannah College of Art and Design as an illustration major and varsity swimmer. Johnny Gillooly is currently a senior at Milton High School.

John’s father John Gillooly, Sr. has been a professional photographer since the age of 15 - his only real job! John’s earliest work as a photographer were desperate calls from John Sr. to cover various assignments under the assumption that he had absorbed enough knowledge by watching him over the years!
