Costs, What's Included, and Policies

$5,200 single 
$4,800 per person double
$1,000 deposit per person due with application. 
$300 discount if you register before December 15.
Optional night (Feb 28) at Kathmandu Guest House before trip begins: $80.

What’s included

Access and instruction

  • In advance of the trip, we will arrange all access needed for beginning a documentary project so that participants can immediately begin to work on their projects on the second day of the trip.
  • A minimum of five evening critique and instruction sessions.
  • Access to course instructors during the day and group meals and meetings.
  • Admission to historical and cultural sites.

Accommodations and meals

  • Five nights at the Kathmandu Guest House, a four star hotel in the heart of the city and near many important landmarks and historic sites.
  • Four nights at the KGH Patan, a heritage hotel in the heart of old Patan City, Kathmandu.
  • All breakfasts, five group dinners included.


All hotels are part of the KGH Group and include deluxe accommodations at a significant discount off book rate. We receive this rate because of a unique relationship between SDN and the owner of the KGH hotel group in Nepal.

Local transportation

  • If you are staying at the KGH Kathmandu prior to the program starting on March 1, the hotel will provide airport transfer for $15. This rate is also available departing the KGH for the airport either on the last day of the workshop or subsequent days if you extend your trip.
  • All local transportation as part of group activities.

What’s not included

  • Your transportation to and from Nepal.
  • Required travel insurance and medical evacuation insurance (approx $100 to $200 depending on plan).
  • Visa ($50) payable upon entry at airport.
  • Optional transportation and meal costs not part of formal itinerary.
     

Other

Requirements

  • Participants must be willing and eager to engage with the core concept of this workshop to document social conditions in Nepal.
  • Participants must have their own digital camera equipment and basic knowledge in the use of your camera. While technical instruction will be provided, we will not be providing instruction on the use of your camera.
  • Participants will also need either a laptop computer or tablet where you can store and edit your photos. You will also need some type of image management and editing software such as Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop with Bridge. Other software is also fine.
  • Participants are expected to be in decent physical condition and able to spend full days on your feet while working on your projects and evenings talking about your projects. Accommodations will be in four star hotels providing comfort and luxury.

Extension

The KGH Group will extend discounted accommodations for three days prior and three days after the formal trip dates.

  • $80 per night for a single deluxe room at Kathmandu Guest House. Breakfast included.
  • $40 per night for a single deluxe room at the Patan KGH (Kathmandu). Breakfast included.

Payment Schedule 

  • $1,000 deposit required.
  • Balance due 60 days before trip begins. You will lose your spot and deposit if full payment is not received within 60 days of start of trip unless notice of cancellation is received.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

  • All payments minus $250 refunded if you cancel more than or equal to 60 days before departure.
  • 25% of your payment will be refunded if you cancel less than 60 days before departure.
  • If you cancel less than 60 days before departure and have fully paid for the trip, we will refund you 90% of your payment if we find someone to fill your spot.
  • Cancellations must be made in writing by email to info@socialdocumentary.net.

Travel Insurance Policy

  • Travel insurance, including emergency overseas medical insurance and emergency medical transportation is required. This is not an endorsement but "World Nomads" could be a point to start investigating travel insurance.

Beginning and end of trip

  • Trip formally begins at breakfast at the Kathmandu Guest House on March 1 and ends after breakfast on March 10. It is highly suggested that you arrive on February 28th in order to have some time to adjust to the time zone change.
