Pablo Diosdado, has spent eight years working for a large tobacco and sweet potato farm east of Raleigh, North Carolina. Like thousands of Mexican men from Guanajuato and central states, the H-2A Program has helped lift Diosdado and his two sons, Hector and Noé, who work at the same farm, into Mexico’s middle class.

Working Season

Milton Lindsay | United States

Working Season is a long-term photographic project that documents the experience of seasonal farmworkers from Mexico who are living and working on farms in North Carolina. The H-2A Temporary Farmworker Program has grown exponentially over the past decade, with nearly 300,000 visa holders in 2023, with 90% of participants coming from Mexico. My project explores the everyday lives for these individuals, the social structure of worker groups on host farms and what the relationship is between visa holders and the robust Latino diaspora present in rural North Carolina.

I am a documentary and editorial photographer working in the Mid-Atlantic region of America. Currently, I am finishing a Master’s degree in Photojournalism at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Working within rural communities and urban enclaves, I strive to document and understand a sense of place, reverence for tradition, and vision for the future among diaspora groups, distinctive cultures, and unexplored communities. For each project, I strive to maximize engagement with those I collaborate with and work to ensure they can experience the final product through public displays. I am always seeking new ways to enhance community engagement with the issues I cover and stories I pursue.
