Location: Uruguay
Voting in elections in Uruguay is mandatory for citizens eighteen and over. Uruguay uses a two round system that if no presidential candidate obtains 50%or more in the first round, there is a runoff election.
This rally for the Frente Amplio (Broad Front) in Montevideo occurred after the polls closed October 27, 2024. The Frente Amplio is an alliance of primarily progressive groups that will become the ruling party of Uruguay in 2025. Their candidate is Yamandu Orsi of the Movimiento de Participación Popular (Movement of Popular Participation) a constituent party.
Flags from the various groups and parties forming the Frente Amplio join the Uruguayan national flag in celebration. The Frente Amplio member groups are anti-racist, economically socially democratic, and Artiguista, following the ideals of Jose Gervasio Artigas. Members such as the Asamblea Uruguay (Uruguay Assembly) and Nuevo Espacio (New Space) may also be considered centrists.
No presidential candidate received more than 50% of the first round of voting. Orsi won with 52.08% of the vote in the November 24, 2024 election. His government will assume office on March 1, 2025.
