Biography

I am a retired photography professor who has presented in Uzbekistan and Talikistan as a Cultural Envoy for the US Department of State. I have lectured in the USA, Egypt, France, Switzerland, and Turkmenistan. I have a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Bard College and have received a Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship award for my work in the former Soviet Union. Previously, the National Endowment for the Arts/ New England Foundation for the Arts have awarded me a grant for work with the Puerto Rican community in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The Polaroid Foundation and ViewCamera Magazine have awarded my work in Tibet and the Rotary Foundation has funded my photography in India.

In 2022, I published The Drunken Bicycle - Travels in the Post Soviet World, with text by Vivian Leskes and featuring 20 years of my photography from the former Soviet Union. Go to https://www.blurb.com/b/11364744-the-drunken-bicycle to preview and order the book.

Haley's Press published "Lost in Siberia", essays by Vivian Leskes with photographs by Frank Ward. Amherst College Press published "Curious Footprints", a book of my natural history photographs with an essay by Nancy Pick and an afterword by Ben Lifson. Both books are available through Amazon.
