Tanay, Rizal - Common carp and mudfish are gathered from a rearing pond at the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resourcess - National Inland Fisheries Technology Center (NIFTC); the fish will be relocated to a "conditioning area," where they can breed. BFAR - NIFTC is mandated to facilitate the growth of common carp and other indigenous freshwater fish.

San Jose - Antipolo City - Tenant rice farmer Vilma Delapena, 49, pulls weeds from her one hectare of land. "I'm actively trying to change my approach to growing rice because of hotter temperatures caused by climate change," said Ms. Delapena. Also, she cited rain as a climate crisis related challenge: "The rainy season used to be predictable (May/June), but now it sometimes starts in August. I'm dependent on rain because like my fellow farmers in the area, my irrigation system cannot accommodate the lands needs.”

Tanay, Rizal - Edward Daryl Liezl, right, stands quietly while his family eats lunch. Mr. Liezl has operated Edarzl Junk Shop, as a family business, for 22 years. "Junk shops are good for the environment because we help keep waste materials such as plastic, metal, glass and paper out of landfills," stated Mr. Liezl. He expressed concern for his livelihood because he is now operating at a financial loss: "there is an abundance of recyclable waste material in the marketplace that has driven down prices, so for the first time I'm operating at a loss.”

I have some stress in my life," stated a participant who declined to be identified. His was a view shared by others who frequented this gambling hole; anxiety and stress relief were cited as common reasons for gambling.
