Exhibit Title: The Courageous (Las Valientes)
Location: Colombia
The purpose of my photo-report is to demonstrate the atrocities and pain that women have suffered during attacks with chemical agents/solvents in Colombia, mainly in Bogota but also in surrounding area. For several years, acid attacks against women in this country have radically intensified, since 2017 more than 114 women have been seriously burned or even disfigured. Not only on their faces but also on their bodies. My work started in 2019.
The meaning of my images are not only to show the effects of these attacks, but also to demonstrate that with strength, courage and resilience, they were able to get through it and become even more beautiful than before, both outside and inside. The power of resilience, the power to hold on and the strength of surviving. These are their stories…
This is a project that I've been working with my heart. They are suffering from post traumatic syndrom disorder so am'I. After covering 5 wars as a combat/camera and being taking as a POW, I had to go through a lot of psychological treatments as well as they did. I gave the woman a conference on my career and we connected through our resilience. They accepted to share there stories with me in order to make there cause known to other country and people through the globe.
