London is home to some of the world's premier institutions of higher education.
The University of London is a federal university comprising 17 member institutions, such as King's College London, University College London, London Business School, The London School of Economics and Political Science, School of Oriental and African Studies, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, among others.
Amid fears of the spread of Covid-19, universities across the country have closed. In London, where streets in university neighbourhoods such as Bloomsbury used to be bustling with college students, are now almost deserted, eerily quiet, even in the rush hour.
While cars, students, staff and Faculty are almost nonexistent entities in and around SOAS, Birkbeck, UCL, LBS and the LSE these days, professors, scientists, doctors have been working behind closed doors in their labs and offices alongside equally powerful, brainy international, interdisciplinary teams, racing not only to ramp up testing and find a vaccine to halt the threat of Covid-19, but also to both inform the general public and to treat patients in hospitals.
