Face Masks: The New Normal

Hamilton William Dos Santos | London, United Kingdom

After the World Health Organisation informed the public that the Covid-19, the acute respiratory disease that has placed most of the world in lockdown, could be transmitted from person to person, many cities have discussed the suitability of their population wearing face masks.

Even when positive news from some countries such as South Korea, Germany, Italy, Spain and France -  some of the hardest hit countries by the pandemic - show both the transmission curve and the number of daily deaths declining, there has been a consensus that while a vaccine is not widely available, which will likely take 18 months - the new normal may be for people across the globe to wear the protective gear and bandanas on a daily basis.

Walking across the city of London it is possible to see that many people have been wearing face masks and bandanas, since people are now aware of the fact that the majority of the infected with the new coronavirus are assimptomatic and can be therefore unsuspecting super spreaders of the virus.

This series offers a glimpse of that 'new normal' on the streets of London.
