Dhaka has been positioned top several times among cities with the worse air quality in the world due to the Air quality index(AQI). Modern  Urbanization, industrialization, and motorization cover a significant part of the total percentage of air pollution in the megacity. According to Air visuals, Dhaka has been ranked one of the leading towns owning the most polluted air in the world.

The Mortality rate in Bangladesh is rising rapidly as it shortens life expectancy by 7 years. Among the top 10 diseases that cause death in the country relates five to air pollution. Lung cancer,  respiratory disease, chronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease, heart disease stroke are caused by toxic air. The country saw a total of 173,500 deaths in 2019 due to air pollution, due to a report by AQLI (Air Quality Life Index).
