Power In Pink
Photographer: Michela West
Exhibit Title: Power In Pink
Location: United States
On January 20, 2017, over 100,000 women marched through the streets of Boston to defend and exercise their civil rights. As a participant in this momentous march, I was inspired to start a photography project to empower women by showcasing their strength and power. With this, ‘Power in Pink’ was born. Women are often seen as the weaker sex as a result of society telling us so for centuries. This project was created to prove society wrong. Women are just as capable, if not more so, but are led to believe that they are not as strong because they don’t know any better. According to UNESCO in 2013, “two-thirds of the 774 million illiterate people in the world are female.” This project was created to inspire and show women that, yes, they can do anything. Especially in heels.
