DROWNING

MAYOWA ADEBOTE | ONDO STATE, Nigeria

"DROWNING" explores the pressing environmental crisis gripping the nation, Nigeria. Rising sea levels and unchecked human activities have led to unprecedented sea encroachment and flooding, impacting coastal communities and ecosystems. This exhibit delves into the multifaceted consequences, documenting the loss of livelihoods, displacement of communities, and the ecological toll on Nigeria's diverse landscapes.

Through compelling visuals and narratives, "Drowning" sheds light on the human and environmental stories behind the statistics. It calls for urgent attention to sustainable practices, coastal protection measures, and community resilience building. The exhibit aims to raise awareness, prompting dialogue, and inspiring collective action to mitigate the devastating effects of sea encroachment. Join us on a visual journey that captures the stark reality of a nation grappling with the relentless force of nature and the need for proactive solutions.

“A lot of people have come to understand and appreciate photography as an incredible tool to promote various causes - and climate change should not be exempted.” - Mayowa Adebo.

My work explores the impact of environmental issues, including climate change in local parlance.

Many have heard of Climate Change but don’t know the great impact it's having already and that they are adapting in some ways.

I am using photography to spotlight key environmental issues and how people are affected. With pictures, I also call the attention of the government, NGOs, Civil society and the public in general to issues of climate change.

My images help to properly educate people about climate change - it causes, impact, and possible solutions.
