DYKE MARCH

Lisa DuBois | NYS, United States

Gender identity is formed by an intuitive sexual self-awareness rather than the gender with which a person is born. New Yorks Annual Dyke March celebrates this concept for all women, including those who identify as dykes, butches, femme, lesbians, transsexuals, crossdressers, transwomen, and non-binary women.

Just a few days before the march, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that established women's constitutional right to abortion. This decision has the potential to set in motion a chain of events that will have disastrous consequences for LGBT people's rights. This ruling against abortion creates further division between the Democrats and Republicans and is an effective diversion from the hearings on the insurrection .

Women and their supporters marched confidently and optimistically, holding pro-abortion signs, in the face of one of the most dangerous and acrimonious chapters in American history. Without a doubt, the revolt against the US Capitol Building has jeopardized our democracy and the laws enacted to protect the rights of all American citizens.

Keeping our democracy has never been more difficult than it is right now.
