Jan Guth | Luxembourg

Sylvie Simon, 63, began her nursing journey during secondary school, continuing in the profession through retirement and beyond. For over three decades, she worked tirelessly in the emergency room of the country's only pediatric hospital, near her hometown. Born to a French mother with Italian roots and a Luxembourgish father who transitioned from manual labor to nursing at ARBED, Sylvie inherited a family legacy in medicine, which she passed on to her son.

Retiring in 2023, Sylvie faced challenges but did not end her nursing career. Encouraged by her husband and son, she resumed work as a volunteer nurse with Doctors of the World in Luxembourg. Despite undergoing medical procedures early in retirement, she gained a fresh perspective and continued to dedicate several hours weekly to voluntary nursing. Additionally, she serves on the administrative councils of two benevolent associations.

Sylvie's nursing journey, deeply rooted in familial legacy and personal dedication, remains active post-retirement. She balances family, medical challenges, and social activism, embodying a lifelong commitment to healthcare and compassion.
