My Name Is Fatemeh

Faezeh Paeinmahali | Iran

Fatemeh Rahmati, tambourine player, graduated in Software Engineering
My name is Fatemeh. The night before I was born, my mother dreamed of calling me Fatemeh. That is why they chose the name Fatemeh for me. Fatemeh means compassionate, merciful, and a way to the right path. To live like Fatemeh (AS) is not as simple as saying the name. She was well-known even before she was born, and everybody knew her name. Her name is still a blessing for my life, like a rainbow, and I am proud that I have her name after me.

Religious figures have influenced Muslims' lives in Iran to a large extent in a way that Iranian Muslims try to follow their talks and behaviors in their lives and look for a sign from those great people. The very direct sign is those figures' martyrdom spot or tomb. However, when it comes to Fatemeh (SA), who is known as the greatest woman in the world, it is difficult to find a direct sign of her. Therefore, religious families name their daughters after her so that they can have a sign of her in their lives. As can be seen, in the search for a sign from the woman who has no sign in this world, only her "name" remains. The name might seem only a simple project at the beginning, but it has deep, complicated, and wonderful meanings. Names are the very first definers of individuals' identities. It is a common belief by Muslims that when a child is born, the first and most important right which they have is that their parents should choose a proper name for them.

In explaining the meaning of the name Fatemeh, there are several narrations which shows the significance of this name. However, as Hazrat Fatemeh's (SA) tomb is in the hearts of those who adore her, the same holds for her name as well.

The best way to find the relation between "Fatemeh"s and the owner of the great name "Fatemeh" is through "Fatemeh"s themselves; the relation which they have discovered themselves and can guide us to the meaning of their names. However, it is clear that whoever is called Fatemeh does not necessarily mean this great name.
