Faces Of Addiction

Dawn Tyler | United States

My name is Dawn Tyler. I am a local photographer located in Halifax. I have been impacted by the opioid crisis in every aspect of my life. I have a son whom I love with every ounce of my being that is battling this disease on a daily basis. I also have many other family members who are in various states of recovery or addiction. Through my photography I intend to show that this disease has no prejudices toward who it affects. Not only people who are addicted and suffering but also their family and friends who love them. My photos will not have any distinction between who is addicted to opioids and those whose lives are impacted by someone who is addicted. The point of doing this is to show that everyone knows someone whose life is being impacted by this crisis. I hope that this project will open viewers eyes, ears and hearts to what is happening all around us. We need to work together to help take the stigma away and replace the negative connotations of addiction with understanding, hope and love.
