March for Life, Washington, D.C., 2013.
Following the 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v Wade that legalized abortion in the United States, peaceful anti-abortion protesters have gathered annually in Washington, D.C. to mark its anniversary. Billed as the “largest civil rights event in the world,” recent Marches have an estimated attendance of a quarter to a half million people traveling from around the country, and the 2013 March was estimated at over 650,000. Abortion supporters, who number in the dozens, are also present.
Despite its sheer (and increasing) size, the March garners hardly any attention from the national media.
