Class Description

This studio class will cover graphic design principles relevant to photographers creating photo books, magazines, catalogs, posters, websites, and other visual materials that present photographic images and text in a printed or digital format.

Foundations of two-dimensional design, typography, color, and layout principles will be explored. Students will begin with design exercises to explore the language of two-dimensional visual design: form, shape, line, motion, contrast, negative space, etc. The class will then move to both conceptual, practical, and technical exercises in typography, and finally working on a real design project.
While Adobe InDesign is the preferred design software, students can use any software they prefer including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or other design software. The instructor can offer expert level advice only with Adobe applications.

Homework will be assigned and presented in class for discussion.
