The Leica Gallery Boston is proud to host the kick-off event for SDN’s 10th anniversary celebration by presenting an artist talk and reception with award-winning documentary photography and avid Leica user Ed Kashi.
Since 2008, the Boston-based Social Documentary Network (SDN) has been presenting and promoting documentary photography on global themes from its worldwide membership of over 2,000 photographers. In 2015, SDN began publishing ZEKE: The Magazine of Global Documentary. Please join us for a reception celebrating SDN’s 10th anniversary. SDN Advisory Committee Member and VII photographer Ed Kashi will speak about his work documenting issues around the world.

Ed Kashi is a critically acclaimed, award-winning photojournalist, filmmaker, speaker, and educator who, for 40 years, has dedicated himself to documenting many of the social and geopolitical issues that define our times. A sensitive eye and an intimate relationship to his subjects are signatures of his work. A member of the VII Agency since 2010, Ed has been recognized for his complex imagery and its compelling rendering of the human condition. His books include Curse of the Black Gold: 50 Years of Oil in the Niger Delta, THREE, and Witness Number 8: Photojournalisms.
Ed will be signing copies of his books that will be on sale in the gallery.
Opened in 2016, The Leica Gallery Boston strives to bring world-class art to the residents and visitors of Boston, following Leica’s long tradition of excellence and commitment to quality in cameras, lenses, and photojournalism. By curating exhibits from world-famous photographers and hosting special engagements with featured artists, as well as offering the immensely popular Leica Akademie workshops for one-of-a-kind, immersive experiences, Leica Gallery Boston provides unique and eye-opening programming to further this mission. Social Documentary Network (SDN) is an organization promoting visual storytelling about global themes. Started as a website in 2008, today SDN works with thousands of photographers around the world to tell important stories through the visual medium of photography and multimedia.
