From 2009 till 2014, San Francisco-based photographer Stefan Jora photographed the lives of dozens of LGBTQ parents raising children throughout the US, with the goal of producing a novellike photobook that would function as both an outlet and a visual record; the latest draft of this "book for a more civilized society" has 440 pages.

All of the parents photographed for this project were at the time living in states that did not recognize gay marriage.
