Howard breaks down at his Sunrise, Florida condo.

According to the "getting paid in America survey," 71% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. The belief that those in trouble are the poor is no longer true. The current wave of foreclosures across the nation is effecting all income levels. The present foreclosure crisis has seen 1 million homes fall into foreclosure since 2006 with an additional 5.9 million expected over the next four years. All it takes is the unexpected loss of a job, an illness in the family to put us on the brink of loosing everything.

Howard & Sheryl Mallinger and their two sons moved to Sunrise, Florida three years ago to live their version of the "American Dream." Life was grand, then unexpectedly Sheryl was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. Life as they knew it spiraled out of control, The electric company shut off their power!! The bank foreclosed on their house!! Howard says he "is scared to think about his future."

Michael F McElroy is a contract photojournalist based in Miami, Fl and represented by Zuma. His work encompasses news, portraits, features and urban landscapes. McElroy spent 2008 covering the Presidential election and in 2009 he has been working on stories about the Economic Crisis and how its effecting people and the American landscape.

His work has been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The LA Times, Sun Sentinel, The Gaurdian, Associated Press, Black Enterprise, Ad Week, Esquire, Zoo Weekly and other National & International Magazines.

His Awards Included Pictures of the Year, Ernest Haas Awards, American Photo, Society for News Design Annual Creative Competition, Editor & Publisher.
