Uman Rosh Hashana. Bratslav Hasidim

Maxim Dondyuk | Ukraine

Rabbi Nachman from Bratslav was the founder of Bratslav Hasidism. In 1810 feeling the approach of his death he decided to move to Uman, where haidamaks carnage occured several years before his birth. "Souls of the dead for their faith," he said, "are waiting for me." He died on October 16 from consumption and was buried in a Jewish cemetery next to the dead from the carnage. Every year tens of thousands of pilgrims from all over the Hasidic world come to Uman to pray at the tomb of their patron saint, Tzadik (sage) Nachman Bratslav. They greet the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) at the tomb of Tzadik. For ten days between the two holidays they fast and pray; It is considered that in these days God "writes" the fate of every Jew for the future.
