"Voices of Freedom, a new beginning", is part of a documentary project that explores the Arab awakening trough the vision, hopes and fears of activist in the pro-democracy movement in Egypt.
During the days of June 30th to July 3rd, Egyptians of all backgrounds - old and young, Muslim and Christian, religious, and secular, whole families together - united together to show their support for freedom, dignity and fairness, and against autocracy, corruption and persecution. They were united as one in their love of country and their desire to live a better life.
These photographs tell some of the story of those historic and hopeful days, during the mass protests called the '2nd wave of the revolution' (the protests that brought down longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak were dubbed the 'first wave') that ultimately led to the removal of Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi. These were days of strong feelings of patriotism, unity, hope and determination - and at the same time, intense uncertainty as to what the future would bring.
