More than 500 shanties were gutted in a fire that broke out at a slum near Agargoan passport office in the capital city Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Witnesses said the fire caught from a shanty around 12.15 pm and soon engulfed the slum, leaving several hundred people homeless. One of the victims said, “We have lost everything to the fire. We have no idea where we will go now.”
Fire brigade sources said on information, nine fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 2.20 pm. About 4,000 people are living in the shanties. They are now homeless as they could not save any of their belongings. The affected People were rescued and shifted to the nearest school.
