Salima District Hospital, outside Malawi's capital city, has operating theaters, electricity, a mobile health project, and, of course, patients. There is one significant gap, however: It has no doctors. Lilongwe Central Hospital, also pictured, has more resources, including a couple of doctors, a dentist, and a "coffin room." Yet, patients far outnumber doctors, leaving many patients to bivouac on the hospital lawn to wait their turn.
