Catalonia is one of Spain's richest and most highly industrialised regions, where people are proud of their own identity and language.

With a distinct history stretching back to the early middle ages, many Catalans think of themselves as a separate nation from the rest of Spain, and they represent themselves as Catalans.

Economic arguments support the cause for Catalonia’s independence, where the economic woes in Spain,was a key catalyst that pushed the Catalan separatist movement to call for the separation from Spain. The other reasons behind the call for independence, are as a whole emotional, belonging to the legacy of Catalonia.

Many Catalans believe, from an economic perspective, that independence is the best solution to have a better economy in Catalonia, which will bring more job opportunities. But there is another part of Catalan people, who are afraid that the separation from Spain would negatively affect the economy of Catalonia.
