I was the winner of the 2009 National Geographic / World Nomads Travel Photography Scholarship to Antarctica, and was mentored on the journey by veteran wildlife photographer Jason Edwards.
This project was a cornerstone in my career, and a highly challenging assignment. I am not a wildlife photographer, so aimed to document my experience in a way that was true to my background in documentary and portraiture.
On our journey we encountered 14 metre high waves, rocking our ship at 14 degree angles, blistering cold and winds, much destroyed camera equipment, even more sea sickness, and one wonderous close encounter with a solitary sea leopard.
