Patras - Greece - Greece is the european country with the less percentage of acceptation of request of residence permit and asylum - Immigrants in a former railway station of the city live camping on abandoned train cabs and warehouses. every day they try to board illegally on the ferryboat at the city harbor to reach Italy because in Greece they have no rights respect neither the asylum. to try to reach Italy the immigrants go under big trucks and clutch to the rear wheels risking their life. as if many are discovered by the police at the harbor some succeed in boarding and reaching Italy but this is usually not the end of the pain. in Italy if discovered at the arrival harbor the immigrants are sent back to Greece - near the harbour an advertising of a ship company to Italy have been filled with some phrases.
The work is about the situation that lot of refugee are experimenting in Patras.
Most of them are sudanese coming from the Darfur region. they have left their country to flee from a civil war that still make victims.
After crossing illegally Egypt, Israel, Syria and Turkey finally they reach the Greece, the Europe. But here in Greece the situation is very hard for them. they have no rights at all. in Greece it's almost impossible to see accepted a request for asylum, also if you are from Darfur.
The only possibility is to reach Italy to have the asylum, and that's what all the people here try to do everyday.
My work want to show the living condition that Sudanese refugee find when they arrive in Europe and what they have to pass through.
