2004, Marseille, France. Nawel, she is from Algeria. Her father does not work and her three brothers are going to french schools and they are living from the french state.

Muslims have by now made their presence felt in Europe’s capitals. A different culture is growing alongside the existent one. Outwards this is made apparent with headscarves and mosques. It is more deep, it is about a different way of social life.

The first massive arrival of Muslim immigrants to my country, Greece, more than 20 years ago, woke me up to a world that, then, felt awkward to me. My quest started then and has never since ceased. Through wars and peace, bitterness and joy, I travelled and travelled, though Islam and Islams, Greece and the Balkans, Western Europe and the East, to understand their lives in Europe.
We are all different precisely and thanks to our differences, we can have the opportunity to understand each other. I do not judge, praise or condemn. But it is not enough to be tolerant and accept differences. We should recognize the existence of an other truth, other than the one we know. That others might see truth in a different way. To have a vision that blends cultures.

Born in Thessaloniki on 23 June 1957.
Graduated as pharmacist from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Background in photography
Self-taught photographer for the last 25 years.

Photographic experience
Press photographer with publications in the biggest magazines and newspapers in Greece. Member of the Union of Greek Photoreporters.
Founder of the company Phaos, which provided integrated services in the field of organisation, conservation, processing, documentation and management of photo archives and collections.
Worked in India, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Greece, Kosovo, Serbia, Albania, FYROM, Turkey, France, England, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands and Bulgaria.
